The Mess

Aaliyah shook her head in disgust.  She hated coming here.  It was always so untidy and reeked of cigarette smoke.  The coffee table was littered with cigarettes and tissues.  She liked Mrs. Martin but she wished she spent more time cleaning up instead of smoking and watching television.  Right now, she was glued to the set, a cigarette in her hand.

“Hello, Mrs. Martin.”

Mrs. Martin just waved.

Aaliyah headed to the backyard where Joseph was.  “How do you stand it?” she asked after they kissed.

“I can’t. That’s why I’m moving out.”

“Does she know?”

He shook his head.

  1. Sometimes people just need a little help to get back on the tidy track. Other people just like living in a mess. If Joseph doesn’t like it and his girlfriend doesn’t like going there then he should get his own place.
